Becoming a Volunteer

We always welcome community members who are willing to donate time to work with us as part of our team!  You can volunteer in many ways by ushering at events, providing event support, office support, and front desk support.  Most volunteer opportunities occur at the Ware Center in Downtown Lancaster, with the exception of event support and ushering, which occur at both venues.

If you would like to get started as a volunteer, please send your resume and a brief letter explaining the type of work you are interested in and your availability to Nathan Cottrell at  Your materials will be reviewed, and if we can find a good fit for your time and talents, we will invite you in to discuss your expectations and learn a little bit about you.

From there, the University will require you to complete three background checks.  You can learn about these by visiting the Human Resources website at and click the link for “Volunteer Instructions on Obtaining Clearances.”  Follow the instructions for completing the paperwork and background checks.  Please note that volunteers are responsible for covering the fee associated with Act 114, FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting.  Other clearance fees will not be at the expense of the volunteer.

Upon completion of the clearances as verified by the Human Resources Department, you will be sent a letter of understanding from the Vice President for Finance and Administration, outlining  the duties you will likely be performing for the Office of Visual and Performing Arts.  Volunteers are asked to commit to a year of volunteer service.

Thank you for considering offering the Arts at Millersville your time and talents!  We look forward to working with you!
