Morning Session Camp

At the Allen R. Baca Center, 301 W Bagdad Ave #2, Round Rock, TX 78664 (Map)

 

In this half-day morning camp, students will receive a survey of the skills required to mount a theatrical production with a special emphasis on technical theater. They will create costumes, sets and props, and publicity materials for their own show, which they will perform at the end of the week for family and friends.

 

Afternoon Session Camp

At the Allen R. Baca Center, 301 W Bagdad Ave #2, Round Rock, TX 78664 (Map)

 

In this half-day afternoon camp, students will receive a survey of the skills required to mount a theatrical production with a special emphasis on performance. They will learn fun warmup exercises to prepare their voices, minds, and bodies for performing, become acquainted with parts of the stage and basic acting techniques, and practice memorization for their own show, which they will perform at the end of the week for family and friends.

 

Full Day Camp

A combination of morning and afternoon camps. Campers should bring a packed lunch to a enjoy a full day theatre!

 

 

Meet the Teacher: Mr. Rob Nash

 

 

Rob Nash’s solo theatre and standup comedy have been seen internationally at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Montreal Comedy Arts Festival, Atlantis Cruise Lines and the New York off-Broadway venue Ars Nova.  He’s been featured on Comedy Central and VH1.

 

Under the direction of Jeff Calhoun (Newsies, Bonnie and Clyde, High School Musical, High School Musical II, Grease, Gray Gardens, Brooklyn and Broadway’s Deaf West Production of Big River), Rob’s magnum opus, Holy Cross Sucks! received its World Premiere off-Broadway production, at Ars Nova (K-Pop, Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812), and enjoyed 14 rave reviews, including The New York Times, and won Top 10 Broadway and off-Broadway shows of 2005 by Time Out New York MagazineHoly Cross Sucks! was shot as a TV comedy special last December at Austin’s VORTEX (which is the womb of 15 of Robs 22 plays and monologues).

 

Rob studied musical theatre in 1978-79 at Theatre Under the Stars’ Humphries School of Musical Theatre in Houston, Texas at the tender age of 11. In 1987, Rob began his standup and improv work in Austin’s Laff Stop (now Capitol City Comedy Club) and Velveeta Room. He has lived in Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and now resides in his second hometown, Austin.

 

Rob is currently and MFA graduate student at Texas State University studying Dramatic Writing. He has taught acting, improv, sketch, standup comedy and character work at CAP 21 Studios at NYU, St. Edwards University in Austin, and The Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa, Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, Zachary Scott Theatre in Austin and the Palace in Georgetown.

 

He has 10 cumulative years of K-12 teaching as a Theatre teacher, a Special Education teaching assistant and a substitute. He and friend/collaborator, Cameron Johnson have launched a website, Facebook page and a podcast for One More Yes. Its mission is to help entertainment artists create viable careers in their fields. He also enjoys playing his favorite role of all, Uncle Wobby, with his 7 nephews and nieces whom he loves to pieces.

At the Heritage Carriage House, 910 Heritage Center Circle, Round Rock, TX 78664 (Map)

 

Campers will experience two summer camps in one! Part one of the camp day will fire up their mind and body through a theatre-focused instructional class. The second part of the camp day will be filled with traditional day camp activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, group games, swimming, and lots of fun. A field trip is tentatively planned to Flix Brewhouse, (subject to change). Campers will need a sack lunch and water bottle each day. Individually wrapped morning and afternoon snacks will be provided.

  • Monday 8/3 - Friday 8/7, ages 5-12, 7:00am to 6:00pm, $160 per camper. ENROLL TODAY!
